The Pineapple or Ananas comsos is part ot the Bromeliaceae family. Pineapples are grown throughout the tropic and sub tropic regions. There are many pineapple cultivars, but the most commercially cultivated is the Smooth Cayenne. Total world production of pineapple annually averages about 8,300,000 metric tons. The pineapple is a great source of nutrition and is enjoyed for it's sweet and sour flavor.
